This has always worked for me and I've never had a problem with it. I recently built a new computer with Windows 7 bit on it and previously Windows Vista I could not for the life of me get my Multimix 12 to work on the alesis firewire multimix 12 PC with Vista, and now that I've upgraded to Win7, whenever I plug in my Multimix to alesis firewire multimix 12 Firewire port, the system freezes instantly and I get a blue screen telling me there was a catastrophic driver failure with the mixer. In fact, it does this on every PC I've tried it on.

Have you got 'System sounds' enabled in the Alesis Control panel? I found mine won't work correctly if this isn't enabled, especially in WDM mode. This is not to be confused with system sounds in the windows panel which you will see many here say alesis firewire multimix 12 be switched off which it should It may be something is grabbing hold of the drivers and stopping them from being available to Sonar but I would go with the driver uninstall-reinstall first.
